By Beca Marshall At first listen, this CD was just an okay album. I wasn't really sure if it was good or if I just liked it because I knew it was Firehouse, one of my favorite bands dating back to the 80's. After listening to it a few more times though, I have come to the conclusion this is a genuinely good album. Firehouse has stuck to their rock roots but these songs aren't "stuck in the 80's", they transcend the boundary into the 90's. "Acid Rain" has a chorus that was stuck in my head for days and "Dream" is a ballad almost comparable to "Love of a Lifetime." "If it Changes" has a 90's sound but not like that of all the other bands of today. It is still a true rock song with a sing along chorus. CJ Snare's voice still sounds great but the overall theme of the album is a little mellower then some of the older albums like, "Hold Your Fire". Bill Leverty's excellent guitar work is a definite standout on the album. The song writing on this album is also very good because every song has a catchy chorus but demonstrates great musicianship at the same time. "Category 5" is sure to recruit new Firehouse fans as well as please the old ones. |
