Left Side Brain
"Big Bang Theory"
(Independent)

By Paul Autry

Well, here we go...Left Side Brain, at least according to their bio, is a hard rock band. My impression of the music was, well, I feel they're leaning towards punk a bit. Not straight forward punk mind you. But, anyway, it was hard to get a real feel for this band because, first of all, I only had three songs to go by and second, it wasn't an actual release that was sent to me...it was a CD-R. On top of that, I had very little information to go on. Yes, I do have their bio, but, it's kind of short and to the point. Now, I do understand that using a CD-R is good promotion and it might save you money here and there. But, the one thing you need to remember is, when you're sending your music in for review, how you present yourself to the publication in question is somehwhat important. You want the writer to see what you're all about. Honestly, I know a magazine or two that wouldn't have said so much as a single word on Left Side Brain because of the way they presented themselves. Lucky for them, I can look past that to a certain degree. I dig what they're trying to do here. The music is good, nothing that stands out and bites me in the ass, but, it's good. But, if these three songs totally blew me away, I would have been a bit disappointed in the way they were presented to me. So please, keep that in mind when sending your stuff out. I'd hate to see a good band get buried because of something like that...the presentation thing. To end this review, as I said, it was hard to get a feel for this band. But, they have caught my attention and I'm curious enough to see where they go from here. I'll keep an eye on them for awhile...at least long enough to form a more full opinion. If it's a good or bad opinion, well, that's up to the band how that will turn out. http://www.leftsidebrain.com
