When guitarist Steve Dawson and bassist Graham Oliver left the original Saxon, they eventually got back together to form their own band, Oliver Dawson Saxon (and have been in disputes with the original Saxon over the name). This DVD is a live performance of Oliver Dawson Saxon, in which they mainly play Saxon classics, but throw in a few of their own tunes as well. The Saxon classics they play include "Power And The Glory", "Wheels Of Steel", "747...", "Strong Arm Of The Law" (two versions, one included as a bonus track), "Rock And Roll Gypsies", "Dallas 1PM", and "Motorcycle Man". Their original songs are "Past The Point", "Bitch Of A Place To Be", and "One More For The Road", all straight up, full speed ahead metal tunes in the classic Saxon vein, "Past The Point" a galloper with a opening riff similar to Dio's "We Rock". Between songs we get to see some behind the scenes/backstage footage of the band acting silly, and, at the end, partying with some naked babes! As for the band's performance, they're not the "real" Saxon (as a longtime Saxon fan, I have to say that "there ain't nothing like the real thing baby"), but to be fair they do quite well nonetheless. Graham and Steve are still a great pair, there's no faulting their talents on their respective instruments, and they've still got it! Guitarist Haydn Conway and drummer Nigel Durham are also competent musicians. And then we have vocalist John Ward (ex-Shy). He may not be Biff Byford, but he does his damndest, and one must give him credit for that. He's actually more like former Maiden vocalist Paul DiAnno (with a Rod Stewart look!), singing in a rough and raw voice. The band does give it their all, putting on quite a good performance. As I said, they may not be the "real" Saxon, but they can still rock! The DVD also includes a bio with band pictures.
