Roger Chapman's "Riffburglars" is available for the first time as a double
CD pack. This brace of albums represents two essential Roger Chapman
collectors items. Recorded over 20 years ago, "The Riffburglars" and
"Swag" albums catches Roger chapman & The Short List retracing their
musical roots in convival fashion.
The overall feel of the albums may be loose but both the music and
recording is superb, as you would expect from a band that features such
names as Steve Simpson, Tim Hinkley, Micky Moody and Geoff Whitehorn
amongst others.
The sessions too place in 1981 and 1983 at a time when Roger Chapman had
been voted best foreign artist in Germany and were treated as a bit of fun
with all the players adopting pseudonyms, which meant that when the records
were first released, nobody knew who the band members were.
The Riffburglars project was a musical odyssey through the songs that Roger
Chapman had come to love such as "Downbound Train" by Chuck Berry and
Cream's "Strange Brew." The choice of songs may not be to everyone's taste.
But, there is no doubt that The Riffburglar sessions remain an important
part of Roger Chapman's catalogue.
