By Paul Autry When Overkill made their debut, I wasn't into "heavy" music. The albums that followed, well, I didn't pay attention to them, either. Now that I listen to a little bit of everything, I'm getting albums to review...bands I know by name, but not by music. To this day, I have yet to hear any of Overkill's previous albums. As far as I'm concerned, their new album, "Necroshine," is all that matters now. On this album, it's clear that Overkill's main strength is attacking each song with massive amounts of agression. They also display some brutal groove. On my first listen, the only band that came to mind was Metal Church (in terms of who I could compare them to). But the more I listened to it, the more I realized that you can't really put a label on what Overkill is doing. They're not death metal, they're not thrash and they're too heavy to be plain ol' rock and roll. Let's just call 'em metal and leave it at that. The good production only helps to improve the impressive nature of this release. "Necroshine" is a well-rounded album from start to finish and I believe they'll reach a much larger audience with this release than they have with past efforts. If you haven't heard the music of Overkill, now is the time to pay attention. Give this band a chance and I promise you this...you won't be disappointed!
