DEREK SHERINIAN
"PLANET X"
MAGNA CARTA

By: Paul Autry

You might know him from Dream Theater or, you might have seen him in the company of Kiss or Alice Cooper. You might not even know him at all. No matter how you know him (or don't know him) his name will mean something to you now, especially with the release of "Planet X." Now, some of you might be wondering what kind of release a keyboard player would put out. Well, from what I heard, I'd say a damn good one. Heavy, progressive rock with an exotic twist. Being as I'm not too keen on instrumental releases, I find that there's really not too much I can say about this release, only because I can't look at it from a musicians point of view. While not something I'd listen to on a regular basis, I did enjoy the time I spent giving it my ear in order to write this review. I actually turned it up, quite loudly I might add, while I was listening to it. I just had this vision of a man who has probably just released the most brilliant album of his career. So, when it comes to describing this release, that's how I would do it. For an instrumental album, this one is pretty good. I have no complaints and I don't think you will either!
