Hay What? is the creation of Seattle based singer / lyricist / composer Kevin Hay. His thirteen song album is a very creative effort, there's no doubt about that. But, on a personal level, it's not something I could get into. His influences come together in the form of rock 'n' roll, ska, funk and jazz all blended together. He does a good job putting everything together because I have no clue how you would label his style of music. This stuff would go over well on college radio, but, it's not a college radio album. There's the alternative feel, but, it's not an alternative album. It rocks, but, it's not a rock album. I see a pattern developing here, don't you? I guess you could say that this album is everything you think it is...but, it isn't. Does that make sense to you? Gotta have an open mind when it comes to music to really get into this one. But, then again, I have an open mind when it comes to music and I just couldn't get into it (there's that pattern again). This is an album that you have to hear first before you form an opinion. You'll either love it or hate it, it's as simple as that.
