ABSORBED
"Sunset Bleeding"
Resuscitate Records

By Tate Bengtson

Average Swedish-styled death metal from Holland, with an abundance of low-tuned axe riffs and vicious death snarls that recalls classic Entombed or Dismember. The opening cut is a supercharged barnburner that rips this five-song disc open with an attention-grabbing explosion. Unfortunately, the quality is inconsistent after the first cut, ranging from the meandering “Maximum Deformity” to the exciting “The Christgrinder,” which is an explosion of killer tempo changes and heavy-handed aggression. Unfortunately, the fourth track is the only number which truly builds upon the opener, offering Absorbed’s heaviest, most ferocious ideas. Given that this is a mere five songs, and only two or three of those really do much for me, I cannot offer my wholehearted recommendation of Sunset Bleeding, but it is an acceptable release for diehard fans of Swedish-styled death metal.
