Cannibal Corpse

By Vinnie Apicella

I dreaded having to listen to this. I really did. That's not a slight aimed at the group, savages though they may be, but can you imagine what it must be like to even attempt to capture something this brutish and nasty in a live setting? One thing I'll say upfront about Cannibal Corpse, album after album, kill after kill, they've never wavered in the manner with which they strike-hard, fast, and with absolutely no mercy! "Live Cannibalism" features the "Corpsegrinder" and crew on a recent massacre through Milwaukee for the successful North American Death Metal Massacre 2000 tour that the state's still recovering from. and where are your tax dollars being spent? Indianapolis got lucky. they only got "Stripped, Raped and Strangled, " Covered with Sores," and "Fucked with a Knife!" So does one Mr. Lieberman have a point when he directs his criticism toward such hateful and vile acts built upon destruction and death? You bet your scarified ass he does. there are none worse. Sadistic, twisted and revered by those of unsound mind living in this sick society bred on hatred and contempt, the vile and the corrupt will have their say. and Cannibal Corpse have been plunging their blood-stained knife in societal harmony for many years and who's to stop them? You can't kill 'em-they've proven that again and again. Now as far as live albums go, this one's remarkably clear-how they did it, I have no idea. But if you thought their songs were hard to follow just on the studio releases alone, good luck here, but this guy Richardson's got guts in that studio, I'll give him that much. the poor bastard. In covering the still remains from their earliest classic moments, a serial killer studying its craft, to the final waking moments of front page legends, the "Bloodthirsty" vengeance will prey upon all that stand before them. no overdubs, no technical debauchery-so take solace in the fact that all of the masochistic noise on display is strictly of their own doing. we never said they were human! Eighteen vulgar complexities bred on torture and torment, the 'Cannibal's let loose in North America just in time for a last minute campaign stroke by our left-leaning strategists grasping for the last shred of human integrity with which to base their wilting platform.
