Cupcakes
"Cupcakes"
Dreamworks

By Vinnie Apicella

Now I'm not ready to go comparing them with The Kinks or anything like that but apparently, after hearing the first few tracks of this debut recording, there is something to be said for dysfunction among bandmates. Cupcakes have already made a career in contributing to the work of other noteworthy artists and here on their own for the first time, make up for whatever personal afflictions that affect them within the personal ranks by pouring their collective souls into their own unique brand of music… A style that comes forth resoundingly clear and effective by the time first single "Exaggerator" hits the speakers. Based around the not always so peaceful elements of pop music pleasantries and often dissatisfied at the turn of a verse so as to wind up their respective strumming hands and run roughshod over the strings, the pseudo-electric vibe that surges in and out almost uncomfortably makes for a highly effective, if not tightly wound, not-yet-ready for prime-time recording with modern appeal!
