By Paul Hanson The more I listen to this style of bands, the more I am getting a real feel for them. The bands on the Meteor City label all tend to be lumped together because they all seem to borrow heavily from a 70s sound metal. The songs are full of thick, distorted guitars and simplified drumming that often recall early rock drummers like Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell. The same theory that applied to those drummers, less is more, comes through here on tracks by bands like Sixty Watt Shaman's "Red Colony." Sparzanza's "Liquid Thoughts" and Fatso Jetson's "Procrastination Process" borrow heavily from the 70s. This genre of what I call generically call 'groove metal' is catchy and addictive. |
