By Vinnie Apicella Motorhead's second live album came seven years after "No Sleep til Hammersmith" and was a real turning point in the bands' career. In meeting the demand of their many fans worldwide to showcase what at this point was their latest classic lineup of Wurzel, Philthy Animal, Phil Campbell and of course the incomparable Lemmy, the focus was on the then current material from the "Orgasmatron" and "Rock & Roll" releases. "Dr. Rock" came calling to get things started, followed by "Traitor" and "Dogs" before cutting into their all-time classic "Ace of Spades." Lemmy's rap between "Eat the Rich" and "Built for Speed" tells all in a couple of quick garbled sentences-"We should have died a long time ago, but we're still here!" This one would be the bands' last for the GWR label as management problems and the bands desire to cross the Atlantic would indeed find them alive and well! If ever a band captured all of the intensity and energy of a live performance put to tape, Motorhead was that band… crude to the point of irritation, raw to the point of seeming production deficiencies, Motorhead live was little more than a bootleg that really puts the listener right there in the middle of the madness that took place in Helsinki, Finland. "Just 'Cos you Got the Power" was the newest arrival that went from the previous year's "Eat the Rich" B-side to the bridge between "Deaf Forever" and their mega-classic "Killed by Death," and recalls the lengthier bluesy feel of their earlier days. A sped up version of "Overkill" concludes "No Sleep at All" before giving way to the original's two extra bonus tracks-here, live versions of "Stay Clean" and "Metropolis," two long standing Motorhead features in subsequent live performances… |
