By Paul Autry Ah, here's a tough one to review. I know this band, I've seen them live and I know that what's on this four song CD is not what Red is all about...at least not now. Let's see how to explain this...these songs can best be described as straightforward, heavy ass rock. It's not a bad thing. But, Red, as I now know them, have moved in a heavier, more aggressive nature. Put it this way, if you hear this CD and then go to see the band live, you'll get the feeling that you experienced two different bands. I think the problem with Red is that they're growing faster than they can record. When that happens (which is rare) it's hard to get a good representation of what you're doing on record. I enjoy this disc and I view this as the birth of Red as a recording unit. Once they get on disc what they do live, you're gonna have one hell of a release which will, hopefully, capture what Red is currently about. But, if they keep growing (which is something they're doing even as I type this review) their recording history will never catch up to their performing history. Maybe they should do a live album, huh? All in all, this is a good release that comes highly recommended by yours truly. |
