Sinner
"The End of Sanctuary"
Nuclear Blast

By Paul Hanson

Following up a CD like "The Nature of Evil" with a kick ass CD like "The End of Sanctuary" is something every band should figure out how to do. There is no reason that bands can't put together consecutive releases that kick ass. "The End of Sanctuary" does just that. From the opener "Signed, Sealed and Delivered" through the ending "Hand of the Saint," Sinner, the band, is driven to create powerful metal. Mat Sinner, the band's vocalist and bassist, is in fine form. Upon repeated listens to this CD, I'm convinced that his style of clear anthem-like vocals (vaguely similar to Halford's Judas Priest) should be the new wave of vocal style. The death metal screech and growl has been done; bands, let it rest! This time around all of the musicians, not just the guitarists, not just Sinner's bass and not just the drummer or just the keyboardist, deliver peak performances. The bar just got raised metal heads!
