By Brynn McKenna Finally, the '90s are over, it's the year 2000 and behold a band that actually sings and plays their instruments in key and sounds like they care about what they're doing. This is the finest CD I've heard in ages! I've been waiting for a great-sounding hard rock band to emerge and Philadelphia's Tidewater Grain is here! Finally, a band that follows no fads or trends and can't be pinned down to one era in terms of style or influence. There is no bitching or whining and this is not a downer to hear. The musicianship is exemplary and tattooed dude Kevin McNamara is one of the finest vocalists around. The title track is a fine example of modern rock that is fresh, original and doesn't sound dated. "American Star" has a little bit of a punk influence. "Still You Fail" is VERY punk. "Annie Helicopter" is quirky hard rock that made sitting still impossible. Ditto for "Peter 55." "Onward Spaceman" is exceptional. Check out the fretwork! "7 Headed And Full of Life" has a bit of a psychedelic vibe and gets punky and pissed in places. All I can say is pass this up and miss out big-time! |
