"Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm"

By Vinnie Apicella

This might be the most intricately intense music I've ever heard! "Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm" is an exploratory feat that searches the inner workings of the human existence-biologically, spiritually, biblically… recounting events from the past and their connection to the present. The words and music are advanced lessons for listeners at any age! Tourniquet's tenth album wails with an unrepentant voice, directed with an indescribable rush of emotion that's truly refreshing to hear that many relevant issues can still be addressed without basing them on "why me"? Set out on a diverse path right from the opening moments of the epic "Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror", which takes a look back at the fabulous and oft-misunderstood work of Bach, where words and music collide in a turbulent flood of emotions that all alone tells much of the talent this unique group possesses. At the appropriate moments, key arrangements fall right into place-melodic tragedy, discontented arrangements fed by classically inspired guitar work-and everything's unforced to the point where as complex as it is at times to keep up, it all just fits into their grand scheme. "Microscopic…" is very personal where religious beliefs are concerned and biblical references find their way often, but far from preaching, think of what they're doing here much like a lesson in history to feed your mind while satisfying a need to display their own strong convictions… those of a band that continues to progress way ahead of our time!
