Buddha Tribe
"5 Song EP"

By Paul Autry

If you're a musician with a CD burner, God bless you. I have one myself and mine does see a lot of action. I think they're highly useful to help spread music around to your friends. But, to be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with this technology. As I said, they're good at helping spread music around. If you're in a band, it's even better. You can make your own CD's and get them into circulation as fast or as slow as your promotional efforts will allow you. But, CD-R's have also allowed bands to become "cheap." Now, I can understand that by sending out CD-R's of your music (for promotional reasons) that you'll save a bit of money here and there. That's all well and good, but, in a way, it's false advertising because you're not showing the reviewer your complete product. A perfect example of this is Buddah Tribe's five song EP. It's a great album that's a mixture of rock and hip hop. They sort of remind me of Frogboy (for any of you who remember that award winning band) and, to a lesser degree, Canada's Yam Cat. Great stuff. But, I don't know if they have an actual release out or if they're just sending out CD-R copies of these five songs. So, in a way, I feel slighted and, in a way, the people who will be reading this review will feel slighted as well because they won't know what they're actually getting...a real "product" so to speak or a CD-R copy. Maybe this doesn't seem all that important, but, believe me, for some people, this matter's a great deal...especially if there's a price on the album, which, in this case, I don't know if there is or not. Anyway, for those of you who are reading this review, it might seem to you that I'm slaggin' the band. If you got that impression, I suggest you read the review again. I really enjoy this band and I would like to hear more from them. They've got it goin' on. But, I would like to see how they actually put their releases out because that's what the fans will eventually be buying. http://www.buddhatribe.com
