Ah yeah! Now this is cool! Dark Moor are a six-piece band, fronted by female vocalist Elisa, who play progressive/power metal akin to Rhapsody or Blind Guardian, and they do it well, too. All members are very talented. Elisa's voice is as smooth as silk, and the rest of the band play with conviction, creating a strong, sturdy piece of work. The album begins with "The Ceremony", an orchestral introduction, then launches into "Somewhere In Dreams", the opening track proper. All the songs gallop along at a good pace, although things slow down for one song, a ballad called "The Sound Of The Blade", a very nice piece of music played on classical-style piano. For all the other tracks, however, it's full speed ahead all the way! Some of my favorites included "Maid Of Orleans", about Joan Of Arc, "Bells Of Notre Dame, about ol' Quasi himself (Seems this bunch have a fascination with French tales!), "Mortal Sin", and "Beyond The Fire". The whole album is a very enjoyable experience, especially for a fan of power or progressive metal. The only complaint I have is that I think the guitars need to be more up front. Both guitarists, Enrik Garcia and Albert Maroto, are very good, so I think they would do well to make their playing more pronounced. With two guitarists and a keyboard player in the band, they can surely arrange things so all their work can share the spotlight. Since they are all talented musicians, they would certainly benefit from showing the world what they can do, both as a team and as individuals. This is only a minor criticism, however. These guys (and girl) have turned out a quality product. Lets' hope for more (and perhaps even better) on the next album.
