I don't know, call me
weird, but, I've never really gotten into the
music of Glenn Hughes. In fact, the only album I have in my collection
that he's on is Nikolo Kotezev's "Nostradamus," which features
Glenn as
Henry II, King Of France. But, even though I'm not a huge fan of Glenn
Hughes, I'm not blind to the talent that he has. I've seen a few
articles where he has been called "the voice of rock." Well, I
wouldn't
say that he's THE voice of rock. But, I would say that he ranks up there
with the best of them...in the top five. That's only a personal opinion
though. After listening to Glenn's current release, the eleven song
"Building The Machine," I can clearly understand why some
people would
consider him to be "the voice of rock." What do I hear when I
listen to
this? Well, when it comes to vocal style, I hear a lot of different
things. I hear funky, I hear soul, I hear a bit of the blues and I hear
some of that rock 'n' roll aggression. I believe his talent comes from
the fact that he can provide each song with the vocal style that it
needs to become a great tune. The one thing that I admired about this
release is the fact that you're not listening to the same thing over and
over again. It's not your standard rock 'n' roll album where you know
what to expect. The man obviously loves what he does and it shows on
this recording. If you're already a fan, "Building The
Machine" will
eventually be added to your collection. If you're not a fan...or if
you're a casual fan...this release might make you pay more attention to
the man who has been called "the voice of rock."
