Inbreed
"Bastards"
Self Released
By Jonathan Mariante Inbreed are a power trio who deal in old school style thrash metal. They consist of bassist/vocalist Jason Dickinson, guitarist Bryan Smith, and drummer Montey Brown. "Bastards Forest" is a seven-track CD. The music is everthing you'd expect thrash metal to be; fast and furious, aggressive and raw, with dark lyrics. These guys are certainly good at what they do. Bryan Smith does know his way around his guitar, and it sounds like he may have learned a few tricks from people like Yngwie, David Chastain, and Dimebag Darrell. Sometimes his playing hits you like a concrete wall of sound. The whole band is a fairly tight unit, with good playing from messrs. Dickinson and Brown, and Dickinson does know how to belt out with his voice. The CD kicks off with "Lost Souls Of The Night", a hard-hitting track featuring some fancy guitar work from Smith. Next up is the title song, which follows in a similar vien. Then comes the Pantera-ish "Claws Of The Devil". The next three songs are lightning-speed thrashers: "Suicide Note In Blood" (which slows down at the end-I guess the guys needed to catch their breath), "Fuel The Fire", and "Badman". The latter really hits home! This is one of the fastest and most crushing songs on the album! Smith really burns up his fretboard in this one! And finally, we have the closing track, "Witch Hunt". This is another Pantera-influenced number. It starts slow, then kicks into gear, then slows down again at the end. It's the longest song on the album, and contains some fluid guitar playing, but I think the end is a bit drawn out. Inbreed do have what it takes. Fans of old school thrash should check this one out. Whether or not Inbreed will be a household name of any kind remains to be seen, but they should do well in the underground.
