Oh my god, look what the
cat dragged in! A tribute to one of the biggest
(not to mention biggest haired!) rock bands of the 80's, the one, the
only, the great (drum roll, please)...POISON!!! Now I know some of you
may feel like drinking poison at the thought of that, but hold your
horses there! You may want to give this a chance because it's pretty
damn cool! There are some rockin' versions of Poison's classics on here!
Poison fans should definitely get into this, not only for the fact that
it's a Poison tribute, but it features the talents of many veterans of
the whole "hair band" scene Poison helped create, such as
Steve Summers
(Pretty Boy Floyd singer, who sounds a great deal like Bret Micheals),
Stevie Rachelle (Tuff), Steevi Jamez (Tigertaliz), and members of Ratt,
Warrant, Every Mother's Nightmare, Cherry Street, Dangerous Toys, Dirty
Looks, Lita Ford's band, and Tyketto, among others. The album kicks off
with raunchy, hard rocking versions of "Talk Dirty To Me"
(featuring
Steve Summers' singing) and "Look What The Cat Dragged In"
(with
Rachelle on vox). Then comes two of Poison's "power ballad"
hits
(another thing the band was (in)famous for), "I Won't Forget
You", with
Summers once again handling vocal duties, and "Something To Believe
In",
which features former Ted Nugent singer Derek St. Holmes on vocals. He
does a very good job, as he has a great voice, and his singing is
soulful and passionate. Next up is a version of "Fallen
Angel", once
again with singing from Summers, which is followed by what
was probably Poison's biggest hit, "Every Rose Has It's
Thorn". This
has singing from EMN vocalist Rick Ruhl, who, with his Southern drawl,
gives it a hint of a country flavor. He also sings on the next one,
"#1
Bad Boy". After this is "Cry Tough", which has Tigertailz
voclaist
Steevi Jaimz fronting the mic. I've always liked Tigertailz (The first
album "Young And Crazy" in particular) and thought Steevi had
a good
voice, so it was cool to hear him sing this. The album comes to hard
rocking close with "Nothing But A Good Time" (featuring Cherry
Street
singer Wes Kimball on vocals) and a punchy version of "I Want
Action",
which has Mike Pierce from Erotic Suicide doing the singing. What can I
say? I like this! All the musicians who participated in this tribute did
a good job! Granted, their versions don't really sound much different
from the originals, but would Poison fans really want that? This is a
hard rocking, good time, party-your-ass-off rock and roll album, just
like Poison's music is meant to be! I think these guys did it justice! I
dare say some of these sound just as good as the originals! If you're
ever feeling down, grab yourself a copy of "Name Your Poison"
and put
it on! You'll have "Nothing But A Good Time!"
