By Wayne Klinger The review of the debut is on my site of this Louisiana band but they were under the name Purge at that time last year.There's alot of history with vocalist Ronnie Griffin and myself since I was first introduced to him in 1990 in his band at that time,Melodic Mayhem which were the big deal alongside Chemikill(now Click.) and Shades of Grey when we speak of underground bands who made impact in Metal Maniacs' pages. Many years later with a new approach on life in general,Ronnie has this stoner rock/doom Christian outfit and don't let that fool you on being a lightweight! Purgation is a serious metal treat for the ears..simple and effective with gret riffs,solos,vocals and drumming.Ronnie is somewhat hard to describe vocally..maybe a Fogherty meets Layne Staley is bizarre enough but the pipes are briliant and different than alot of them you hear.Musically I just get reminded of Pentagram,Pagan Altar,Nemesis stuff in the old-school doom days.Definately a veteran brand of music here with the experience and hopefully it'll pay off for them. www.purgation.com email: info@purgation.com
