Resistant are a quartet
from L.A. who play raw, aggressive thrash/punk. They are influenced
by bands like Suicidal Tendencies, the Crumbsuckers, and 80's thrash
metal bands. I even hear a touch of Infectious Grooves in there! They
play some blistering, hardcore music, with singer Anthony spewing out
angry, whiskey-soaked venom, lashing out at society and the establishment,
and the injustices in the world. One thing they touch on is the plight
of the Native American nation, in songs like "Feathered Serpent" (some
doomy Sabbath influence in this one), the title track, and the closing
track "Medicine", which is an instrumental played entirely on traditional,
native American instruments, and with chanting. They also use this style
of music in other parts of the album, such as the title track. I found
this idea rather interesting, as this is not commonly done by rock/metal
bands. This band can certainly wallop out some slamming tunes, and it's
clear they have a message they want to get across with their music.
"Boss" and "Man Against The Machine" deal with the dangers of overuse
of technology; "They Want To Keep You Out" is about the police shooting
an unarmed man; "Mutated Future" is about nuclear war; and "Strike"
and "Refuse/Resist" are about the general injustices of society. "Four
Wheel Drive" is just a tune to rock out to, showing these guys also
have a sense of fun. Their approach may be a little raw (although I
suppose that's the idea) and there are some rough edges that need to
be ironed out, but these guys can rock!
