By Melanie Falina Just when you get used to the melodic metal zooming past you on the first three cuts of this disc, Modern World, Half Alive, and Death Stalker, Rival throws you a curve ball with their song Tides of Fate. Tides of Fate slows things down a bit, and proves that Rival is much more than just a metal band. With topics from assisted suicides to questioning the various injustices in life, Rival isn't afraid of the heavy issues that a lot of bands don't like to sing about, and frankly, the topics a lot of people don't like to talk about in general. Bashing out each of these tunes, the powerful drummer Gary Olson, dual guitars, Neven Trivic and Chuck McNulty, and on bass and lead vocals John Johnson. Extremely well produced, Rival has created a masterpiece collection of tunes to drive fast to.
