Saga
"House Of Cards"
SPV

By: Paul Autry

Well, I have to admit, Saga is a band that's been around since 1978 and, while I know the name and some of the music, my knowledge of their history is pretty much next to nothing. For those of you who share my knowledge, or lack of it as I should say, let me give you a brief history lesson. Saga began their career as an "art rock" band, which was later described as progressive rock. They're considered legitimate successors to groups like Yes, King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, which is stated in their bio. Put it this way, if you know the band, you know their history. If you don't know the band, you have a lot to learn. As for the music on "House Of Cards," I've gotta say, it's a well packaged, well written and well produced released. It's probably one of the finest progressive rock albums that I've ever heard. But, I can't honestly say that I could really get into it for the simple fact that their musical style just didn't float my boat. I was impressed by the overall musical quality of this release and I would suggest it to any long time fan or anyone who's looking for something different other than your basic three chord rock 'n' roll. As for myself, it's just not an album I could listen to on a regular basis, but, like I said, it's a good, quality album that I would recommed to people who would happen to ask my opinion.
