Snapdragon
"Family Jewels"
Straight Line/Atlantic

By: Paul Autry

It's about time that the rock 'n' roll world got a new female voice and that voice belongs to Summer Rose (is that a rock 'n' roll name or what) and she can be heard on Snapdragon's debut, twelve song release, "Family Jewels." Her vocal style reminds me of Stevie Nicks in a way...because you can't really say she sounds like this person or that person...she's got a style that's all her own. Musically, Snapdragon isn't doing anything new, you've heard this before. Rock 'n' roll that's not too heavy and it's not too mellow either. I guess, for lack of a better term, you could call it pop rock...with balls. But, when music is this good, who cares if it has been done before...I certainly don't. I appreciate the fact that the main focus seems to be on the songs themselves and how they're presented to the listening audience. Going back to the terms, I would be quick to say that this is one of those albums that we would call a "party record." If you're throwin' a party and there's gonna be beer and good times, this is the kind of album that you want blasting out of your stereo speakers. Personally, if I'm gonna blow twenty bucks on a CD, this would be the kind of album that I would go looking for. It's solid from begining to end and it's the kind of album that I could listen to over and over again and not get bored with it. If you appreciate rock 'n' roll of the highest quality, you'll appreciate what Snapdragon has to offer. I pray to the Almighty God of rock 'n' roll that this band sticks around for a good twenty years or more and they keep giving us the kind of music that I've heard on this release. Support this band and everything they do...they deserve to be number one!
