The Animals
"Interesting Life"
A2 Records

By Paul Autry

Once again, here's a band that I'm familiar with, mostly by name and not by history. So, as I sit here listening to this release, I'm gonna view it as I would a new band since this is the first time I've ever owned a release by The Animals. Now, according to the liner notes of the CD, which make quite an interesting read, this release is a one time deal and it's the only studio recording with this line up. The disc was orignally made to be sold at live gigs to give the fans a momento to take home with them. As far as the music, there's some great material on here, which happen to be new versions of classic songs. Stuff like "House Of The Rising Sun," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," and "CC Ryder." Thanks to my love of the original Blues Brothers movie, the John Lee Hooker classic, "Boom Boom," (which Hooker performed in the movie) became my instant favorite off of this release. There's two Ray Charles numbers on here as well, "I Believe To My Soul" and "What'd I Say." As a matter of fact, pretty much every song on this release is special in one way or another. As a whole, I believe "Interesting Life" will appeal to long time fans of The Animals, that's a given. But, I also believe that this album will appeal to a new generation of fans, introducing them to some music that they may or may not be aware of...and making a fan out of them. The moment these 15 songs were put on a disc, it became an instant classic. http://www.a2records.com
