Tread
"Hiding from the Sun"
2001 (Hapi Skratch Records)

By Wayne Klinger

Damn once again I get a band that has been around awhile and never heard of them....how rude! Out of Denver,Colorado is this heavy-ass metal band with their sophomore 12-track effort to "Gription" which was a limited copy release that was very successful for the band but hard to obtain. Embarking on more available product, Tread has made sure "Hiding..." is more readily available and it's a good thing since this release just damn impressive from start to finish. Now, to me, they just don't sound like one typical band. I would say however if you took Pantera up against Mindset, that would be somewhat of an idea to go on. Perplexed harmonies and heavy-as-cement riffs make this a great listen and I have to agree with "so many grooves that it leaves a rut" quote from the press paper. Definately not trendy and not looking to be radio-friendly; Tread definately left some tire marks inside my head somewhere and I don't have a spare to get myself straightened out! On a commendable final note, this band remains tight for the simple fact that they have the same original members since 1993 when they started....that would be proof of why the chemistry is astounding on here. An advisory goes out to check this band at once!
