The Company of Snakes

"Burst the Bubble"
(SPV)

By Paul Autry

For some reason, Whitesnake never really caught my attention because David Coverdale did absolutely nothing for me. But, this was way back when...when I had a very limited taste in music. As a writer, I never paid attention to their music until I recieved a copy of "Here They Go Again," the brilliant, double live album by The Company Of Snakes. After this release, I had a new found respect for the music of Whitesnake. Now, with the release of "Burst The Bubble," bassist Neil Murray and guitarists Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody are at it again with vocalist Stefan Berggren and drummer John Lingwood with an explosive, fifteen track release that captures the spirit of the original Whitesnake while, at the same time, goes well beyond it. If you can forget who these guys are for a moment...listen to this album and pretend that it's a new band that's just starting out and you'll see just how good it is. My personal taste in music favors the 80's style rock 'n' roll, kinda like what Coverdale was doing with stuff like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" and all those other radio friendly songs. Now, I wouldn't compare this album to bands like Poison, Warrant, Kiss, Dokken, Firehouse or any other like minded band that I really enjoy because it's not, shall we say, "fluffy," for lack of a better word. This is more mature rock 'n' roll...seriously good while being entertaining at the same time. These guys are already in the musical history books, there's no question about that. But, what they're doing now...get ready to write another chapter because The Company Of Snakes are rocking. If you haven't heard of them yet, I would really suggest checking out the live album first because it's just an amazing release and, once you hear it, there's no doubt in my mind that you'll want a copy of "Burst The Bubble" as well. http://www.companyofsnakes.com
