An Interview with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed
by: Don Sill

Is it even possible for one of the hardest and heaviest hardcore bands on the planet to have a soft side? Well, after reading this interview with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed you will see that the answer is Yes..

Lets clear some misconceptions of Hatebreed.. Some people think that you guys are evil Satan worshipers.. Are you?

JASTA: (laughs) We get asked that a lot.. Everybody's different in the band so I can't talk for them, but.. On our first record there is a lot of lyrics that can be construde as anti-religion and stuff.. But, were not an anti-religious band at all. We actually play with religious bands a lot. We used to play with Shelter and weve played with Christian bands like Living Sacrifice and bands like that. I think there is a platform to express your views whether it be political or religious or anything through music and that's always been a part of music and it always will be. But, we just do what we do.

A lot of people also don't know that you are also a dad..

JASTA: Yeah, I have a daughter.. She's almost three..

You're a young dad, how old were you when you had your daughter?

JASTA: I had her when I was twenty-one.

How do you like being a young dad?

JASTA: I love it, man.. I'm glad I had her young because it's like I'm still a kid in a way too so I can really identify with her and I have so much fun with her and stuff.. I think I'm a little bit more understanding that an older dad would be..

Yeah, it is fun, and you get to grow up with them..

JASTA: Totally.. I think I can still remember when I was her age. It's just great, especially around the holidays and stuff. You get to see them all happy and stuff, it's great.

So, you're very family orientated guy.

JASTA: Yeah, and we try to talk about that in the songs too.. You hear and you know of so many people that would be much better off if they just had a good family structure. Nobodies perfect and everybody has their problems but, in the long run what else do you really have in life other than your family and your friends? At the end of the day we're just a band, we're entertainers none the less and we do what we do. But, I would hope that if anyone was gonna derive anything from our show or walk away with anything it would be that they gotta be there for their family, that's what's it all about.
