From Coral Springs, Florida comes New Found Glory, a poppy/punk band
reminicint to Green Day and Blink 182, who find their glory by combining
hard-core, emo, and punk rock together to create a sound that that
stands out above the wide range of guitar wielding clones that have
recently flooded the punk rock scene. With distorted amps, tight harmonies,
catchy hook lines and addictive guitar riffs along with a raw-to-the-core
stage presence and a fan friendly persona, New Found Glory comes correct
with a refreshing laid back outlook that has their fans spinning into
a moshing frenzy.
"We try to be the most un-cliche band there
is." Says guitarist, Steve Klien, "I
grew up going to shows and I know exactly what I want to see. I think
kids know that when they go to one of our show they have a 99% chance
that they're going to meet us. We have a lot of crowd interaction,
you listen to our CD and it's basically the sound track to seeing
us live. We're not worried about our image, there's too many bands
out there right now that work so hard on how they look than how the
music sounds. There too worried about what their wearing and what
their hair looks like than what the songs sound like. Basically everything
on the radio all sounds the same, they all sound like Pearl Jam with
a little rapcore in the middle."
Last year New Found Glory signed with MCA Records and released their
self-entitled major label debut and have been finding some pretty
big commercial success off their first single, "Hit or Miss." The
band also made their television debut by performing on "Late Night
with Conan O'Brien" and for a band that generally seems to be new
jacks within the music scene are certainly taking their new found
fame quite modestly. "Within the past 3 years
we've been taking the steps slowly and haven't really taken any jumps,
ya know, it's been baby steps and everything that's going on we don't
even think about it." Klien says humbly, "Every
time we find out something cool we're just like, Oh that's cool, that's
awesome, and we just try to leave it at that and not think about it
because if you have a clouded head and your giving yourself all this
pressure then you can't relax. We're just worried about playing shows
and stuff like that because we don't want to think about anything
else."
New Found Glory who also includes Cyrus Bolooki, Ian Grushka, Chad
Gilbert and Jordan Pundik have been touring non-stop and are currently
gearing up for the Vans Warped Tour this summer. "Our
goal is to keep our heads straight and just to keep on playing shows
and keep on the road and expand our music to as many people as possible."
Says Klien, "Our whole goal from the beginning
was to have fun and never do something that we don't want to do and
never go against any of the ethics that we have within the band. We've
been running the band the same ever since we started and it's never
gonna change."
