If you're an REO Speedwagon fan, this release is well worth checking
out. It comes off like a rock video documentary. You're not getting the
full story behind the band. There's a bit of history mentioned here and
there. But, it's not like you'll watch this release and walk away from
it knowing everything there is to know about the band. My opinion is
it's more like a moment in time piece. This is the band and what they're
all about here and now. It's kind of a backstage look in order to give
you an idea of what makes them tick and, for your average fan, it shows
them in a more human light, if you will. It's got sort of a laid back
vibe to it if you know what I mean.
REO Speedwagon has been around for quite some time now and, of course,
they've had a lot of success. You might have seen them in concert or
maybe you caught them on MTV or you read a few interviews and you might
feel that gives you a sense of who these guys are, which is does in a
way. What makes this release a bit different than all that is you come
away with a more personal knowledge of who REO Speedwagon really is. In
other words, it seems more personal.
I'm not sure if the non-musician fan would really get into knowing what
kind of equipment everyone uses. I mean, for me, I dig the band. But,
seeing as I'm not a musician, I wasn't too interested in the
conversation about what they play and why they play it. It's interesting
to a certain degree. But, it's not something that totally floats my
boat. You get to see the band on stage at various times through out this
release and that's always something you can appreciate. Although with
everything you can do with a DVD these days, to make a good release even
better, I think it would be a good idea to throw on an entire concert or
maybe a few videos. Or, better yet, give us a look at the making of a
video. A lot of people know what goes into making a video. But, on the
other hand, a lot of people don't.
This release is hosted by the exceptionally beautiful Alex, who's
obviously a fan of the band herself, which is cool because it's not just
someone there to do a job and I think her personality gives this a more
down to earth feel. It seems very relaxed...like it's not even an
interview. I for one appreciate that approach because that's something I
try to do with my interviews. Musicians get tired of the same old who,
what, where, when and why sort of questions and 95% of the time they do
an interview, that's probably what they get hit with. Alex seems to make
it a bit more fun and by all the smiles I saw on the faces of REO
Speedwagon, well, I'm sure they enjoyed making this release and now you,
as fan, can enjoy a rare and intimate look at your favorite band in the
privacy of your own home.
