Introducing LIES

It has been said that the best art is born out of the ashes of intense depression, pain and sorrow. LIES' Hate is a festering amalgamation of intense pain and sorrow that was made into a soundtrack. Frontman Travis Bain's emotionally unstable vocals powerfully purge his demons, while guitarist Nick Ascenario creates a sonic playground for Bain's ecercim to take place. Bassist Paulo Garcia lays down thick, thundering bass lines that reverberate for Raynal Reyes drumming to attack like machine gun fire. Hate consumes listeners like cancer until all that's left is a rotten core.
How long has LIES been in existance?
We have been together for a year now.
In your own words describe your band's sound & influences?
Our sound is dark and heavy with various elements that can be brutally hard and then be soft, clean, and melodic. We all have different influences and listen to all styles of music except for R&B and Country. Travis listens to Nirvana, Slipknot, Pantera, Cold, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, etc., I listen Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Children of Bodom, etc.
What is the current scene like in your local area & how LIES fit in?
There is really no established scene here in New York City and outside. There are kids that are into heavy music and will go to a club, which are only a few clubs that are dedicated to playing metal and kids will just hang out.
What's the bands long & short term goals as far as touring, recording?
I have a little home studio in my apartment with CuBase and other cool software and plug-ins. So, we mainly write and record a lot of our material there. We like to jam and rehearsal a lot just trying to get better and evolve as a band. We are going into the studio in November and December to rerecord some songs and do some new songs. We are currently playing shows regionally for now and hope to tour in the near future.
What type of image would you say the band projects?
We never thought about what the band is image-wise. This is not something that is clichéd or contrived. We are four regular guys who love music and hopefully everyone else that listens to us will too. We are just kids who like to listen to music and smoke pot. We are definitely pro cannabis legalization! We just want to change people's minds.
Do all members contribute to the writing & arrangements of your original tunes?
All the members contribute to the writing and arrangements of all of the songs. Travis or I will usually have a riff and then jam out as a full band together and build from one idea to another that then makes a full song. Then Travis will usually find lyrics that go along with the music.
What do you feel sets LIES apart from other Metal Acts?
We can be brutally hard rhythmically with a lot of double bass and breakdowns yet at the same time have melody. Vocally we don't always have to scream to get our point across.
Who would you like to tour with and why?
I have loved Children of Bodom for many years since they first started when I lived in France. When I went to Japan and saw those guys in concert, everyone loves them. They are like big ass rock stars over there. So, it would be definitely cool to tour with Children of Bodom!
Do you have a special ritual that you guys do before you hit the stage?
We don't really have a special ritual. Maybe a couple hours before we play we may smoke pot. Just kidding!
What is your fan base like?
A lot of people who are coming to our shows are younger kids that are into the same music and bands as we are, so it's very cool.
